anyone have one of these pedals? the california sound pedal sounds killer in the samples. these pedals are kind of on the expensive side, so i'd like to learn a lot more about them before buying one. any thoughts?

Rid owns at least one.I love their pedals...Never had the chance to play one.
BTW ,if you check Mattias Eklundhs videos on youtube ,you can see him playing the Fatal tube!

I played one in a shop. It might have been the California Sound, I don't remember well. It felt really cheap and sounded way worse than the sound examples on the website. Not recommended at all. If you want a quality Russian distortion pedal, better get yourself an all-tube Yerasov or SMB.

never heard of yerasov or smb. in fact, i wasn't particularly in the market for russian pedals. i just noticed that i'm starting to see these pedals pop up around the internet lately. can you tell me about the brands you mentioned though?

I have the PD-5 PteroDriver pedal that is basically a copy of ENGL 530 preamp in a floor pedal. It is very compact (smaller than Seymour Duncan SFX-03), it has 2 channels (and 2 modes for each channel), 2x12AX7 tubes and combo emulation (didn't like it). It cost me around $150. Sounds very good clean and overdriven. I don't care much for its distortion tones. Still, an amazing bargain for its overdrive tones.

I used to have the STP-6, which is their current top of the line 3- channel pedal with 2x6n2p tubes and one 6n3p tube. 3 distortion modes, 2 overdrive modes, separate EQs for OD and distortion channels, built-in high quality cabinet emulation and noise gate. I had to sell it because it was too bulky, and I couldn't live with either of its distortion sounds. Overdrive and Cleans were excellent, though. It was a little expensive at $450.
I'm not sure if you can find any of their products in a shop, but I think they can send their products by mail.
Still, I'd like to mention that currently my favorite OD/distortion pedals are Marshall JH-1 Jackhammer and Damage Control Womanizer. Seymour Duncan SFX-03 Twin Tube Classic and Yerasov PteroDriver share the third place.
