Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost Pedals?

I've been curious about them (all 3 models). The description in the website is vague - anyone has experience with them?

I also read a few HC reviews that say that they are relatively noisy... is it true?

Re: Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost Pedals?

Have and use the Plexitone, as well as several other Carl Martin pedals.

Noise is subjective, high drive make several amps sound noisy but that is because of their internal wiring, another reason is bad electrical sources, (lights, etc)

I found the Plexitone pedal to greatly satisfy my lust for a driven plexi... Oh yea, no noise in mine...

I never believe that crap on Harm ony Central, it's like going to Guitar Center and listening to a salesman, talk about gear....

My HDB isn't leaving my board. I placed it last in the chain so that I'm buffered and I have a nice clean boost if I need a solo volume hike. The OD sound is something to behold too though I slightly modded mine. Very, very nice pedal, and if I could I'd have two :P

I tried a MK II a few times and really, really liked it.

Noise...I didn't notice too much but noise is one of those things that don't bother me! People always talk about how much noise a guitar, amp or pedal make but I never notice it when you're playing so it's not a bother to me.

So what do they sound like? Tube Screamerish or something a little more original...

What's the boost like? any Brit classic rock tones in it?

Re: Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost Pedals?

Nah, they're very versatile OD/distortion. Keep the gain low and volume high to use as a boost, or bring the gain up and it's a very nice and natural sounding overdrive/distortion. It's just a nice sound.
The boost is just a clean sound. It'll give you a level increase or boost a drive channel/distortion pedal.

Erm they are all amp dependant...likes to play at giglevels...
Well what shall I say??
Somewhat natural....to much old man for me personally....we do have been known to make special one offs for those who wants it though;)
Just made two pedals based on the Quattros drive, the low and high channel.
Personally I would probally try the DC-Drive instead....and they are no more noisy than most other drives out there:)

Re: Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost Pedals?

Harmony Central is full of 16 year olds who play something 10 minutes and it does not get "the" sound they expect so it is bad. Every Carl Martin pedal I have played was very nice. Like the review I read a while back of a JCM 800 the kid gave it a 1 for sound quality because the clean was not real clean. What an idiot.

Natural and too much old man is not what I look in a pedal... a special order does sound luring... :scratchch

Re: Carl Martin Hot Drive N' Boost Pedals?

Hence the DC Drive:)
Way too cheap and all that, has an internal powerdoubler, so that it runs at about +-9 volts, has about the same amount of dirt as the PlexiTone....
Thomas and me fiddled around with that one for some time....and got it the way we liked it...even scammed the boss in to like it as well:D
My own personal fave really, as I more or less made for myself in the first place, and use it too...
