Any experience or reviews with this pedal, the boss AW-3 dyanamic wah,

the reviews in harmony central are mixed,

is it worth the money bec I am planning to buy one, and I already have a dunlop 535q manual wah

and is the Timed Tempo autowah in the aw-3 really useful for you,

thanks,

It's OK. I have one, but I think there are better options. If you want really nasty, funky autowah sounds, something like the Electro Harmonix Bass Balls, or one of their Q-Tron pedals can get you a thicker tone, they are all still analog like the originals the Boss models. Also, the Tone Factor Mojo Hand Analogue Filter 442 or DOD 440 Envelope FIlter can get some cool tones.

If you are looking for more synthy type filter sounds, the Digitech Synth Wah is pretty cool as well.

Re: The boss aw-3 dynamic wah

The AW-3 has a really cool feature: timed auto-wah. It is set like a modulation effect, and it sweeps based on your settings (tap tempo). Compared to the AW-2, the AW-3's timed auto-wah is more refined, especially on longer sweeps. The AW-3 also has an expression pedal jack, so you can use it like a regular rocker wah. It's a little thin compared to a CryBaby, but it would fit my needs. The vowel sounds are fun to play with for wacky synth sounds.

As PFD said, the EHx BassBalls is an awesome choice if you want a stripped-down but nasty sounding auto-wah.

Nice info :)

by the way, is the Timed Tempo autowah in the aw-3 really useful for you, which you get by pressing the pedal and holding it, then set the tempo of the sweep,

is it useful for you or just a good gimmick

thanks for the replies,

Re: The boss aw-3 dynamic wah

I actually prefer a timed wah over an envelope-sensitive wah, since it is more consistent. An envelope filter is more likely to sound different with every note, since chords will be louder, and low notes on high strings are typically quieter. For that reason, a timed wah is my favorite kind; some may prefer a rocker wah for complete realtime control, while others refine their control over dynamics for best use of an envelope filter. The AW-3 does all of these plus the vowels. For me, the vowels are more of a toy to play with, since I can't find much use for those sounds.

Re: The boss aw-3 dynamic wah

Maybe its just me, but I have trouble finding the right tone with my AW3.

The vowels setting is pretty useless IMO. I haven't found a situation where that has been useful.

It does give a nice timed wah sound, but the tone IMO is pretty relaxed. I think I'd like something with more of a sweep...

anyways, I haven't played with it much. more experimenting is definetely in order.
