What amp did B. Gibbons use for "Brown Sugar" record?

Does any one of you know what amp Billy Gibbons used to record "Brown Sugar" back in the days? Did he use any pedals to get that unique overdrive?

it was probably a tweed or brown fender deluxe but could have been a '68 100w marshall

if you want early zz top, get a brown fender deluxe. not a fancy pants re-interpretation that changes a bunch of stuff. its the hidden little marshall gem of the fender line. ive never heard zz top tones from a vox.

a good les paul straight into that 6g3 and youll have all the old billy gibbons your fingers can play

I'm also thinking an early Tweed Fender Deluxe was used during that period...I've seen pictures of Gibbons sitting on top of one with a strat that was given to him by Hendrix..Not sure about Brown Sugar,but he might have played a strat and more than likely his LP.Great stuff on that first album!

The early ZZ Top stuff is simply amazing and Billy's tone is legendary!

I can tell you w/o a doubt that a 6G3 Deluxe amp will get those first album ZZ tones...

Tweed Deluxe amps come close but the brown was a bit tighter and more aggressive and nail that old BFG thang!

In one of my many books or magazines,there's a really cool early picture of Billy sitting on top of a tweed Fender playing a strat...Haven't been able to find that photo though..His tone is always awesome anyway.

Here is a clip of ZZ Top live in 1980, the big amps are not miced, just for show...if you look on Franks drum riser behind Billy there is an early 60's brown Fender Deluxe amp...the sound you are hearing is Pearly, the Deluxe and a chorus pedal...that grind is nothing more than the Deluxe cranked!

Trust me on this, it's in there!

My main amp is a 62 Deluxe and it has the goods for sure!
