This sucks, it is time to sell my Boss TU-3!

I love this Boss-TU-3 at home and sometimes with the band, but overall it tends to be too sensitive and picks up vibrations in the room. When I tune up at rehearsal for example, if anyone is playing bass or the drummer is playing or warming up....it confuses the TU-3. So, any other good tuners out there that have a good buffered bypass (I don't want true bypass) and not so sensitive that it can;t be gigged?

Thanks!

I use a Snark headstock tuner. Best tuner I've ever had. Ideally, get one for each guitar you use regularly.

There is absolutely no possible way the TU-3 itself is picking up vibrations in the room. It would be the pickups on your guitar, and if so, that will happen with any tuner.

For the record, I've never had problems tuning with my Korg Pitchblack while others are playing.

No, the problem started after I got the TU-3 and it happens with all my guitars. I then tried my old TU-2 again and it resolved the problem. Tried the TU-3 again and encountered the same problem. :(
I also use my tuner as an always on buffer as well and the Boss has a great buffered bypass.

It could be that the TU-3 is more sensitive.

Why did you get a TU-3 if your TU-2 was working fine?

I have a TU-3 and I have never encountered this problem either at practice or a gig. I would rate the speed of tracking of the TU-3 as excellent.

Maybe you got a lemon? that said, Pitchblack is what i use, although the tc poly intrigues me a lot, more so the mini to save space.

Re: This sucks, it is time to sell my Boss TU-3!

Will probably just sell it and go back the TU-2 or find something else as long as it is fast and has a buffered bypass.

By the way, this is mt second TU-3 and I had the same result, I can tune with it in a band settings. As soon as anyone starts playing, the pedal can't tune properly, it works much slower in that setting and keeps jumping around. If I am the only one in the room or it is quiet, it then tunes up fast.

I tried a Peterson and it was way too sensitive and took too long to tune up. The Pitchblack is true bypass, so I skipped it.

The TU-3 is more accurate and sensitive than the TU-2 and I think that is why it may not be the best stage tuner. The TU-2 tunes up faster. I bought the TU-3 since I assumed Boss made improvements and it is advertised as more accurat and can be used for setting intonation in a pinch rather than having to use my Korg tuner I use for intonating guitars. For that it is great, but didn't realize the TU-3 would be so problematic on stage!

Just did a test. Turned up our stereo at home and the TU-3 had trouble tuning my guitar. Turn off the stereo, and it tunes great.

The Snark clip-ons are great tuners. Very responsive, accurate, and cheap enough to have one in every guitar case. But they are very sensitive to room noise when tuning, IME.

I have this experience too, if the drummer or bassist play even a little, I can't get my snark to tune very well. I want to try their new pedal tuner though!

I have two TU2's a TU3 and a Matrix tuner. Never had any problems with any of them. I don't know why you are picking up sympathetic tones when you turn it on?? Mine doesn't do that. Maybe go with a TU2? The primary difference us the TU3 has a brighter LED so you can see it better when playing an outside gig.

Thats really strange... why would a pedal tuner be picking up sound?

Cause it's more sensitive than the TU2

Rather Dashing is right on...any pedal tuner will freak out if the incoming noise to the pickups is too loud for the strings to overcome it.

The problem only exists when the volume of the guitar is open, right?

The solution is to tell the drummer and bass player to STFU when you're tuning.
