  • NAD! The AC30 handwired head has arrived!

And I love it! It’s everything I hoped it would be.

Been playing it through a one 12 Matchless cab with Celestion G12H30 Heritage. 75 Hz cone.

I also have an AC30 size two 12 with Celestion Alnicos but it’s in storage.

Anyways, the 15 watt/30 watt switch works great.

The hot/cool switch on the treble boost channel is footswitchable and cool is classic AC30 and hot gives more overdrive.

The master volume works beautifully but has a switch to completely remove it from the circuit and when removed the sound is fatter and richer than when the master is on 10.

This amp is one of the best sounding amps I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned many classic amps.

It’s lively, resonant, jangley/chimey as all get out and both loud as heck as well as sounding wonderful when the extremely well designed master volume is engaged for bedroom volumes.

No effects loop...I thought there was but there isn’t. I don’t care.

I have a Hall of Fame Reverb pedal and a Korg SDD3000 DelayChorus pedal for U2 style tones I can put in front of it.

This amp probably isn’t for metal heads or those seeking crushing distortion.

But if you’re after U2, Beatles or classic AC30 tones it is smoking hot.

A future classic, IMO, and beyond my expectations.

      Glad you like it!
And as a metal head, I'll say that if it gets killer cleans, I have a pedal that will goose it into as much distortion as I would need. I like the sound of an AC30 driven where no one should go.

        Ha!

It sounds stunning goosed with a Tubescreamer or Klon KTR. Gets those EJ and Brian May violin tones I’ve always loved...especially with the TS.

Those are the only overdrives I own.

It doesn’t sound like a Marshall though.

And it’s not grainy like the Matchless SC30 I owned and sold.

        It’s both chimey and smooth.

I have a Keeley Katana that has a top boost setting...

In an interview Brad Paisley said the AC30 was his had to have amp. Actually two ordered from Great Britain. Now I think that is a powerful testimony from one of the finest guitarists around.

Thats a great score if you cannot get a Matchless, but who can besides Joneser?

Nice! I had an ac15 for a little while, but I traded it for a guitar a while back. It was really quite a nice amp.

Buddy Miller is one of my favorite Nashville guitarists. Played a lot with Emmylou Harris in Spyboy (Lucky guy!) and with his wife, Julie Miller. Buddy always has two or three AC30’s onstage. Seeing him with Emmylou 20 years ago at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is what got me into AC30’s.

I tried but couldn’t bond with my Matchless amps. Had a Chieftan and a SC30. The SC30 was supposed to be Voxy but it had a grainy quality to the sound that didn’t appeal to me. This AC30 is smoother and the master volume seems better designed. I love the way it can be switched right out of the circuit for a fatter, richer tone than the tone when the master is full up on 10.
