      ec used music man amps for a while. solidstate preamp with tube power section. some early models had a 12ax7 phase inverter, later ones had an solidstate. big, clean and loud. good stuff if thats what you are going after

        Yeah I have the 12ax7 and have compared to the later ones and felt that the inverter added some warmth and tightness, but it's more likely that I am biased and I was comparing my 4x10 speakers with the 2x12.

          It's a toss up between a '57 tweed Pro, a '58 high power Twin, or a Biacrown Hiwatt Bulldog combo that I had. They were all a little different, but each sounded fantastic in its own way.
