  • Ampli for small gigs

I am searching for a new amp. Something right in the middle between the JCM800 I have in the rehearsal room and the little orange I used to train with. My 40w Marshall valvestate is dead after 25 years of work. So I need a new amp for small gigs. Loud enough to play over a drummer but not so powerful and heavy like the JCM800. I like the sound of EL84 tubes and I prefer the British sound to the American one. I used to drive the amp with the pedalboard, so I guess one channel should be enough. Any suggestions?

Marshall SV20 Studio Vintage 20Watt combo is a Plexi making Muthaf*cka

If you have the cash -it's hard to beat.

I was impressed with a little Blackstar in a store the other day -it's not a SV20 but it's 1/3 the money.

If you do go for the EVH LBX, I'd recommend the 1 vs the 2, unless you absolutely need a clean channel. The 2's blue channel sounds nothing like a Marshall. The 1's blue channel is more Marshall-y. Kinda.

No mention yet of Jet City or Egnater?
Here's a radical idea: AMT pedal into an EHX .44 Magnum pushing a 2x12 closed back cab.

Since you like the British sound, consider one of the Orange amplifiers. Their quality is very good and they have an amp or combo for just about any purpose.

OP, VOX AC15 This is an absolute one trick pony -and not a classic Marshall sound, but that one trick is absolutely amazing and affordable.

I suggest trying one in the store before purchase. Simplest amp, almost no features.

Yes I need something like that. No frills. A plug and play amp. The guitar and the pedalboard will do the rest
