  • NAD, a tube amp

    Legit. My 2nd Randall.

I can sound like blues or Hatebreed or Megadeth with my RG. And lots of power for loud cleans. My delay pedals come alive and my strat spanks.

I used to have an RD1 that I thouroughly enjoyed. I'm curious as to how the real-deal Diavlos sound in the room. It sounds good in your clip! Is that a PPC112 you're running it through?

Yup this was on my orange ppc112. Good from bedroom to stage.

          Re: NAD, a tube amp

so after several days with this Randall 45RD Head, I am satisfied to get the tube feel and tone. There is a clean channel here yo, and its very usable for sparkling cleans. All my pickups work well here. Add modulation and its all dreamy. Add some Gain on the clean channel for the crunch and rock and hard rock but it doesn't sound great. Here I'd rather have a standard tone amp like a Fender, Marshall, or Orange. So there is a boost button that kinda acts like a tube screamer but with more bottom. Usable. I also use a tube screamer and it helps a lot if you want to stand out in the mix.

So this thing of course is best on the high gain channel. However I did notice that some pickups don't sound good on this and some pickups do. Namely:

          Custom -- ok
          Pearly Gates bridge -- meh
          Pearly Gates neck -- ok
          Dimarzio Air Zone - yuck
Dimarzio Air Classic neck - ok
          Guitarfetish mean 90 - yuck
          Custom 5 - ok
Dimarzio Titan on my baritone - meh
          Dimarzio D Activator - killer
          weird eh.

I love Randall ss amps, I'm sure their tube versions are just as good. If I could afford one I'd love a Satan or Diavlo.

Would'nt mind having a go at that doom one (with the skull graphic on the faceplate..) they had out a few years ago too...forget what it was called.

Congrats on the new amp..sounds sweet. That reminds me..need to post my T2 HL up in the 'SS amps' thread..
