    they are more or less the same but echo is often the term used for short (50-500 ms) delay while delay is used more ofter for the longer delays (550ms-several seconds)...
    If you just read a post by The Guy Who Invented Fire please understand that opinions change, mind sets change and as players our ears mature...not to mention our needs grow and change. With that in mind, today I may or may not agree with the post you just read!

      I agree with The Guy Who Invented Fire, although on occasion someone will use the term "echo" synonomously with "delay" regardless of delay time.

          I also think of echo as being a very vintage, possibly tape effect (Binson Echorec) and delay as being more modern analog and digital chips. It's all the same idea however...

              The other way I tend to think of it is that echo modulates, degrades, and/or runs the repeats into each other....similar to what an analog or multi-tap tape delay does.

              Delay spits out identical repeats at a specific delay and volume.


              But that's just my opinon....they really are used interchangeably.

                      i dunno, im sitting next to a Digital Echoplex which has 198 seconds of delay...i use them interchangeably.
