Tube Amps for Idiots.

I'd appreciate it if some one could point towards some resources about tube amps. I'm talking about the really basic stuff - like what's the difference between a 12AX7A and a 12XA7 or between an EL34 and an EL84 or a 5881 or a 6V6. And maufacturers like Slovtek or Groove Tubes or Eurotubes, ad inifinitum.

The Tube AMp Book by Aspen Pittman is also a great source of info...


Together with the Guitar Player Repair Guide by Dan Erlewine those are IMO the 2 books that any tech MUST own and ideally know by heart

http://thetubestore.com/index.html This is good site to learn about a bunch of tube stuff in the faq section about stuff like biasing. On product info you can learn about how different tubes look like and tone you'll be getting with certain tube brands.
