  • 80s fun at my house! Soldano Atomic head

My gear bud dropped off a Soldano atomic head (converted from a combo) last night. I gotta say, it's a fun little guy. Really bright overall, but in a good way. Sounds great with single coils or humbuckers, and with the preamp dimed and my PRS it does a really good job of the George Lynch thing.

It's been a while since I've played a genuine high gain amp, and I'd forgotten how much fun they can be. It also sounds great at low gain levels, too, especially with my strat. My only criticism is that it veers away from the soldano thing a bit when totally dimed and the EL84s start to really break up. Not a bad thing, just different from the classic Soldano 6l6 thing. It also benefits from warm speakers. I don't think I'd want to use it through a standard Marshall 4x12.

Overall, a great amp for getting the hotrod marshall tone at low-moderate volume levels. I want my own!
