I wouldn't go so far as to call 'em vintage. They only started being produced in the early 90's. They need another decade or so before they reach that status. They only stopped calling them 5150's earlier this year, or late last year, when EVH split with Peavey.
Yes, that closed back design gives a thump that'll rattle your chest, combo or head. I like both versions. I played my combo through the 5150 cab for a while, and wanted to get the head also to play with that. The combo offers reverb, where the heads don't.
