First WAH GAS.

Mhmm well yeah, for xmas I think I'll buy myself a wah. I don't know why. I guess everyone needs one really? So yeah... I'd like to be able to handle a lot of gain, to be easily modeable (hehehehe...) and to be able to just stay in one position for leads (to get this nasal like tone I love).

So far the contenders are the standard Cry baby (not the fancy model, but I don't know how it's called...), the ZW crybaby (considering it's this aspect of his tone I'm trying to emulate, I guess it really is the obvious choice) and the Ibanez Weeping Deamon (which gets great reviews and has more functions than the ZW).
If the Standard CryBaby can do that, then heck, I may as well go for it and end up modding it later. It's way cheaper than the others (about 60 pounds, against 80 or so for the 2 others) and even modded it could still be cheaper.

Also if you have any other options... Sorry I can't say much about what I want, I don't know much about wahs.

allright. well the original is ok, i have that, nothing that great. i plan to get it modded sometime, just dont know how. ive heard bad things about the classic. what about the "q" control one? it would seem that its kind of like the cfh.

Yeah... I'll see what they have in the shops around here. Basically I'd like to keep it all under 90 pounds at the most if possible. Can be anything within that limit. Maybe I should look second hand...

The Crybaby 95Q looks cool, pot for the Q control (width of the resonance) and pot for gain control.

If you want to mod, get a used GCB-95, the standard Crybaby circuit. Stateside they go for about $15-50 used. Mods are easy to come by, check for Richard Clarke's wah mods page and RG Keen's Technology of Wah article at geofex.com. I took a standard GCB-95, sharpened up the Q, gave it a bit more gain, and fattened it up a bit with more mids/lows, and was quite surprised at how good it sounded. And true bypass of course. If you want to get crazy-go-nuts with a GCB-95, convert that buffer tranny to a gain stage and add a fuzz pot.

It's basically a Crybaby-type wah. There's only one review at Harmony Central, it's very positive. I think the brand name TAD would be the only guarantee. They are very good experts.

I have 3 Wahs. A Vox Clyde McCoy that I use with my rehearsal rig. A VIntage Crybaby from the 60's that was modded by StratDeluxer97, and a Vox 847. The 847 is a decent Wah right out of the box, but if you send it to StratDeluer97 he can make it magical. What he did to my vintage Wah is amazing. The Wah went from being a "Vintage" piece that sounded like Crap. To the Best Wah I have ever used. PM John and he can fill you in on the specs and what he does to it.
The Vox Clyde McCoy is Stock and it is a really good Wah. Very vocal sounding with a little bit more gain when it is activated. I like this Wah a lot and will continue to use it. I use this with a Deluxe Reverb.

The 847 I have is no where near as good as the other 2 mentioned. But it can be one of the best out there if it is modded. I would say that most people will say that the Fullertone Clyde Deluxe is probably one of the best "Vinatge" style sounding Wahs made. But a 847 with the correct mods will sound as good if not better, adn will be a lot less money.

Some of this will be affected by the Amps you run them thru. A Wah that has a really strong bottom will not sound as good in a Marshall IMO. The Amp itself has a really thick bottom so it tends to get to thick. So you have to consdider the voice your Amp has and how the Wah will react to this. I have 3 and use 2 of the 3 with different Amps. My 847 will eventually be sent to John and have hinm work his magic on this as well.
