You can get a lot better sound than the Boss MZ.

Check out the G2D Morpheus maybe.

Maybe I do want a metal pedal. I tried a Boss Metal zone on a crappy marshall and it sounded pretty good. I like quite a bit of distortion but not that extremely trebly, makes your ears bleed metal sound. Anyone thing the Metal zone would sound good with my Bassman? ( i know, it is a clean amp I just want an awesome pedal to backup my Crate V-series and if the pedal is kick ass, it might become my main amp)

    Rocktron Silver Dragon
Has 1 tube and 2 modes, all tube (from blues to classic rock) and tube/ss combined (high gain).

Another great pedal....I felt the Plexitone edged it out though...

Take a look at The Gristle King on Greg Koch's website. Looks like he and a buddy are marketing pedals now. Check out the link on his homepage - it's hysterical.

He plays it through a Bassman, BTW.

RID's Carl Martin Plexitone is great also...Gives you "Boost" Crunch or Higher Gain and it really does cop the Marshall vibe better than any other pedal I've played through...Pricey but it's a great pedal.

I think you should look at dual mode OD's, so you can turn your one channel amp into a 3 channel amp. The Fulltone Fulldrive II, Menatone Fish Factory, and the Z Vex Super Duper 2 in 1 would be 3 of the highest quality ones to look into.

Bassmans are one of the best amps with any pedals.

    They're great with any tubescreamers.

The best distortion I have, though, is a Maxon 830, but they aren't cheap.

    +1, try a ds-1

if it doesn't work out and worst case scenario you can't return it, it's only $40 and still a great pedal

I love the Boss DS-1 (and also the TS-9 and 808 Tubescreamers) through my '59 Bassman. Especially the DS-1...Satriani (and Vai) also used that pedal to overdrive thier Marshalls, and vintage Marshalls are very much like a '59 5F6-A Bassman. Hard to beat a nice DS-1. And if you don't set the distortion to high it'll clean right up when you lower the volume control of your guitar when you play rythym. Lew
