the 2203 is a 1984. Stock model

They will have the same number of gain stages, you are correct, stock the 1959 has one less gain stage because of the split channels. I'm sure Lee has voiced the modded one to be hotter and, for lack of a better description, more 80s sounding.

the pull knob on the far left the switches in another stage of gain . the treble control also has a pull which adds even more gain . add master volume.
