  • New old barn amps day!

Last weekend we went to a little town that has an antique barn. I had spied some gear. Amongst the gear, I spotted a Peavey Studio Pro 50 and a Kasino Concert head. Would've picked them up then and there, but we didn't bring cash. The Peavey works, but will get a good cleaning. The Kasino, not working entirely. I would hear the speaker noise when I had it using the peavey speaker, so who knows at the moment. Picked them up for $75. I have been sitting on a Fender Special Design Utah 12" for a long time, so that'll be going in the Studio Pro. I'll post updates when they happen, now on to the pics!

Welcome to the SP club! Looks like your's has the scorpion speaker which was originally their PA speaker iirc. It's a fairly clean/flat EQ speaker, like a cheaper EVM.
I have a silver-stripe version that really sounds great through the the mesa cabs. It has the ****field1230 which is a less colorful t75 copy.. Even the dirt channel is very good but i basically use it as an EQ+ power-amp for pedal setups.

Peaveys can spend most of their life in a barn and still work. Enjoy giving new life to a cool little amp!

I wonder if that was a selling point?

At the time, they were known to be super-reliable.

I'm a fan of older Peavey bass amps.

I wouldn't try too hard with that Kasino.

So far the SP hasn't been too bad. I had to patch my Fender speaker with tacky glue and a coffee filter. It's in it now and sounds a bit better. Anyone know of any mods that can be done for it? Haven't had any luck with Google. I have yet to pop the Kasino open, but I was planning on having that serviced anyway. I will look in it and see what it looks like.

Got around to fiddling with the Kasino. Removed the custom 2 prong wiring, and took a look at the key lock switch and cartridge/tube fuse holder wired to it. Completely overlooked the lack of a fuse when I plugged it in. Not sure the purpose of the key lock switch. I'll have to look and see where the wiring goes. It does go to the fuse holder though. The holder calls for a 250v 18a fuse. I'll have to see about those when I go and get a 3 prong plug. Any guesses as to what the lock switch might do?

                            Update!
The Kasino is alive. Just needed that fuse. I bought another fuse holder(250v 30a rated) and it's cap fits what's on the head. Grabbed a 250v 20a fuse, popped it in, and got a hum from the power supply. The indicator bulb is dead, so I went ahead and hooked it to the Peavey's IN and got a pop when I turned the head on. Plugged the ol HM in and it sounds pretty good imo. A bit scratchy, but it has yet to get some Deoxit. The tremolo and reverb aren't working. I'll dig into that when I got some more time, and hook up my Arion Tubulator, too.
