Guitar/Bass practice

ok,my first bass is on its way but i'm somehow a bit afraid to use it with a guitar amp and don't wanna spend money on a bass amp right now so i ask you guys. Since playing bass through a guitar amp can be dangerous for the speakers, how is it about playing a guitar through a bass amp? Low frequencies destroying the speakers shouldn't be a problem anymore and when using a bass amp with some pedals in front of the clean channel it should give a useable guitar tone for home use,right?
I'm asking since i don't have room left for another amp and because i'm not really using my spider II much anymore(just pedals in front of clean channels),so i could as well excahnge(and of course use the moeny i get from it) it for a bass amp.
Any thoughts on this?

Playing guitar through a bass amp isn't dangerous for the amp, but for your hearing, as it sounds like crap. Believe me... I'm forced to do it at the moment and it's not nice :/

Nah, you won't get a decent sound out of your bass amp with a 6-string - it plays higher frequencies than the bass amp is designed for. I've tried, and it didn't sound very good.

My very first "gigable" setup was a digitech RP100 into a 30 watt 1x15 bass amp.. Not the best of tones, but it worked for letting me jam with a drummer!

for band jams i have my powerball,but it's just way to loud for home use.It's not really about tone here but more about being able to practice without destroying anything.Since my finacee moved in here it's quite full now and i have no idea where i could put another combo,so a two-in-one solution would be the best.
