  • New Preamp Builds. Delving into the rack world with a twist (vst replacement)

Hi guys. It's been a long while since i've posted. I tried to avoid the internet for a good few years as I was spending too much time on it essentially just looking at nothing. Now that my son is a little older i've also gotten back into building gear.

The first one is now my primary amp. I made it due to frustration of using VSTs when recording and spending more time trying to get it to sound good than actually recording. So enter the recording preamp.

It's pretty simple at it's core.
    • Single channel based on the Soldano SLO
    • 5 band graphic equaliser
    • Built in overdrive Pedal
    • Transformer isolated DI output so I can record DI tracks for reamping whilst also recording the amp tone (this was the main focus)
I designed the pcbs for it and have a few spare if anyone wants to buy them.

Ok it doesn't seem to want to let me edit the first post to add images so i've added this post. Here is a clip of the 1u
Just a quick sketch for a potential buyer that wanted to know if the High gain recording preamp I am prototyping will be capable of Master of puppets type tones. Excuse the slop I haven't played this

the 2u has the same features but also a digital reverb and is based on the MKIIC+

Now that is awesome! Whilst I would probably have attempted a multi-channel SLO design, your preamp is sensibly spec'd and honestly packs a lot of what you might need into one neat package. (And, of course, nothing beats an SLO.)

I already have a full SLO. This is just something to get good tones fast while recording. Also if I need clean tones etc I have it hooked up in 4cm with a gsp1101 that switches to the internal modelling for cleans and such.

Those 12AX7s are going to spill out sitting on their side like that.

            I kid I kid.

            Looks cool.

Glad to see you back. I’d expect nothing less spectacular as a comeback post.

That's actually where I got the idea for mounting the valves. I tried it with a pcb like the kasha originally but I didn't like how it flexed.

Yup. Only thing that makes sense really to get the voltages required without also adding loads of weight and vibrations/noise radiation.
