  • Anybody using Amplitude 5 (especially the cab sims)?

Supercharge your guitar tone with new signal chain & routing, new cabinet section with VIR ™ technology, custom IR loader, new gear, and much more.

I'm interested in moving some of the rig into my Macbook. Especially cab sims. I have real amps with load emulators and need to get the cabs down. Amp sims aren't that important to me.

Amplitude 5 seems to get mixed reviews. Some say it does a whole lot of things, but not particularly well. The $200 pack sounds like a bargain if half of the stuff works well. Is that a temporary sales price or are they just doing fake price lowering?

    Any feedback? Anybody using it?

I'm using the free version with a couple amp and pedal purchases on my Mac Mini. It's solid for what I need. Not as many speaker and mic choices like 4 had but it's still good. I use it mainly for my own practicing with IEMs in from my interface.

Man, I haven't thought about Amplitube for a long time! When did V.5 come out?

I had V.4, but didn't use it much. Sorry I can't offer more insight.

P.S. - The Neural DSP stuff is awesome!

You might consider waiting for a sale to get Komplete (or upgrade), which includes Guitar Rig 6. It has the Reflektor IR loader, and the GR6 rack interface is very good for setting up guitar signal chains. Komplete also contains tons of other stuff to use in productions. It is on sale for $400 atm and can be used for upgrade paths into future versions.

Amplitube is $200 entry and most of the amps you buy piecemeal.

I am absolutely certain that there are free IR loaders if you don't need anything else.

I have Amplitube 5 Max along with my interface. I'm pretty happy with it. In several areas, it's a big improvement over 4. It's also overstuffed with legacy models, duplicate presets, and is generally a mess to navigate. But there are some things it does really well (imo): Fender models are great, along with some of the Marshalls and Oranges. But it's way overkill for just the cab and mic section.

If you're just looking for a decent, easy-to-use IR loader, look into the free Emissary amp/NadIR bundle (Ignite Amps). It might be everything you need, with no muss or fuss. FenrIR (Aurora DSP) is another fine free option that might do it for you. Those are the two I use in VST form--they're super lightweight, where Amplitube and Guitar Rig seem pretty resource heavy.

I've fiddled with Amplitube 5 free version, along with a slew of other computer amp sims over the past decade.

I've found Neural DSP, Brainworx, Nembrini Audio and some Softube plugins to sound the best, with Neural DSP arguably at the top in terms of the combination of sound, feel and GUI.

Doesn't NeuralDSP have lots of annoying bugs? I casually read some threads on it and people were expressing that.

I'm confused. I thought the package for $200 right now contains everything?

Seems to be a bit muddy about what is included.

I haven't encountered many, if any, bugs (edit: on Windows), and they do sound great. Super plug-and-play.

Thing with Neural is that they're really set up as idealized, self-contained out-of-the-box "rigs" with two or three amp heads and two or three cabs, rather than flexible software suites that give you tools to mix and match a bunch of elements. So they're perfect if you want a Petrucci rig or Tim Henson rig, but each one is a specialist's tool to one degree or another.

If I was looking for either an all-in-one solution or something to use for general purpose modelling, they wouldn't be my first choice. Particularly if you're going after cab emulation--they don't do anything special in that regard, aside from the fact that the included IRs are pretty good. But they are a blast to play.

Maybe trial one or two. The interface is the same across the range, and you'll see pretty quickly whether or not Neural is a direction you want to go.

Yep, that's Max, and a good price. It'll get you everything in the Amplitube line aside from a couple packs (Mesa, maybe?). It's a whole studio full of guitar gear.

Typically they do summer and Black Friday sales. This may be as low as it goes.

Again, the free trial is a good place to start. If the interface doesn't work for you, you'll know right away.

I haven't experienced any bugs with any of the amp plugins I've used, and that's over a decade's worth.

To add to mononoawares post, Neural DSP plugins do allow you to use your own iRs, or you can simply turn off their cab sim and use your own iR loader.

In fact, most amp plugins allow the same.

Every Neural DSP plugin gives you a standalone (application/program) and a plugin version (for your DAW).

My experience with Amplitube is it's decent enough for demo-ing a track when you don't have a particular amp handy, but for a final recording, almost anything else would be better, unless you really know how to process it to make sound closer to the real thing. But I don't have v5. I haven't used Amplitube in a while, partly due to my first statement.

Oh it's Amplitube, not Amplitude. Oops.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't realize the $200 for Max is actually a sales prices, it looked like a permanent one. Maybe I just get it, it's just the price of a nice pedal.

Yep, that's an important point. I'm not down on the Neural stuff at all, obviously--it's just whether you want a suite (Amplitube which is mixed-bag full-smorgasbord with some standout models, Guitar Rig focuses on effects, S-Gear is stripped down and super-focused on amp feel, etc.) or something more like a really primo Bento-box (Neural DSP), or nice individual models like Nembrini and Softube.

It's a golden age of big sounds in small boxes, I tell ya.

Sorry didnt know it was on sale. Its normally 600. I figured the 200 version was the entry level one where you needed to buy extra gear.
