  • What's the difference between....

    a fender hot rod deville 2X12 and 4X10? does the size/amount of the speakers make that much difference? They are about the same price. Thanks.

    Heh, the same day I post my 4x10 review, this question shows up.

    Yes, the speaker configuration makes a VERY big difference, both in volume and overall tone. For example, the 4x10 has a bigger cabinet than the 2x12, which means an increase in volume and in bass response. When an amp is working, sound vibrations come not only from the speakers but from the cabinet itself. You will find that a larger cab will "fill the room" with sound a lot better than a smaller one.

    I prefer the 4x10 over the 2x12, but it's a matter of personal preference. They are both great amps. Try each one side by side, if possible, and listen to the differences for yourself.

      So does that mean if I'm looking for a sound with more treble (eg. ska) I would be better off with the 2X12? Of course I'll check them out side by side, but I just want some background on them. Thanks.
