He’s just letting potential customers know they might be able to save some money. I don’t see how that’s asking for condescension and negativity.

They're just another twin triode with different operating characteristics. Reading the data sheet, they seem to have similar characteristics as a 12AU7/ECC82 or a 12BH7, all of which are lower gain factor pre tubes, in the range of 17-20 gain factor. They seem to have a much higher transconductance than any other twin triode, not sure how that affects their operation. They have a 9AJ pin basing, which is different from the 9A of typical 12A?7 types, so they might not be interchangeable in certain amps (depends on what is on pin 9)

Tighten up Bro, doesn't get easier from here.
FWIW you can get any of those dirt cheap off ebay if you know where to look.
TD sells NOS Mullard 12AX7's for like $399 each where you can get them as little as $50 if you know where to look.

Hopefully we can all now look back at the tube panic of 2020 and laugh. Talk about a panic-induced phenomenon.

Power Tubes or more accurately termed Output tubes are what provide the big sound. These are the biggest tubes in an amp that pump out serious wattage.

Hey Black Sable JJ 6550 only $200 each / $800 a quad such a deal.
And w/a 50% failure rate out of the box you got a 50% chance of having good tubes.
                  Now thats free comedy.
I see my earlier reply about my ficticous claims was scubbed.
                  Whatever-the-actual-feck.
Some people can't handle the truth.

I have seen amp techs on Youtube building good sounding guitar amps from NOS radio and television tubes. What they emphasize is you can build an amp around tubes that are plentiful and sell for only $4 a piece. I think it would be a blast to build a Marshall Plexi style amp with 12ax7s in the preamp stage but with low power tubes in the output stage.
