  • Reviving the Eg

This has been on a shelf for a while since it had some volume drip issues. I had it checked out and reset tubes and biased by a tech.

Plugged it in today and wow..... I had forgotten it's voice. Pleasantly surprised.
The cabinet I'm running it through I didn't have back when I was playing the Eg . ... It crushes through this cabinet! ( K100s and Manowars.)

OMFG that is one of the best tone clips I've heard you post. That's some crushing sound. Sounds pro produced.

Yeah, man, if you can't make serious music and get crushing sound with that rig you've got in the photo, I have a paper hat and a Burger King application for you. ;-)

I am always jealous of your tone. When I go to the studio in September, can I fly you into Boston to dial my amps in?

Sure man! As long as I'm back by Oct 30 for a deer hunt!

And thank you, that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty happy with it.

Here's a guitar that may not sound as good with it. I'm not loving it as much as some of the other guitars through it.
Happens that way quite often I think. Some guitars/pickups sound better or worse with different amps.... Makes it more interesting I think.

I think the Les Paul sounds great there.

The Dean has some girth to it. The Epiphone (active) sounded mid-rangy to me, while the LP just sounded thinner in general.

The BFG LP you had in another clip going into the ENGL (that combo was great sounding), if you still have that guitar, that would be interesting through this rig.

You hear a lot about how tube amps need to be turned up to really roar. Most of my tube amps have not been very susceptible to low volume suckiness.... This Egnater is however one of those that really needs to be turned up to sound great. As I'm learning.

Now I'm curious about the Tribute LP because I know I dropped the volume a lot in that clip.... I may need to redo that guitar real quick to compare.

Anyhow here's the BFG you requested sir. DD tb-6 in the bridge.

I think the BFG with the Distortion through the Engator wins for me. (Kind of renewed my appreciation for the simple Distortion pickup) That was tight, had both some mids, good chop to it, but still had some subs to it. Dean is a really close second, just it sounded slightly more scooped. Engator is good sounding all around, though, regardless of guitar. I need to compare that one to your ENGL vid. The ENGL vid was pretty crushing also.
