That makes sense, it would need one considering you characterise it as not having a tremendous amount of gain on tap. I love it when despite conventional wisdom suggesting you have to turn the gain down for more clarity, that there are sounds like this with such a ball-tearing amount of gain that’s so heavy and raw without turning to mush.

The speaker probably has a lot to do with it and the overdrive probably tightens it up some. I’ve always heard great things about Egnater every time it’s been mentioned. That’s a really killer tone you’ve got there. Kudos for using real cabinets and mics (not suggesting there’s anything wrong with using impulses, but nothing beats the classic way and that deserves respect!)

Yes the first clip is the Egnater. All of them are except post #17.
it does have a boost in front, using the EHX East River Drive.
This amp is not hissy or fizzy. It's pretty decent. You can find them once in awhile on the used market.
I made a video awhile back with a few different speakers to listen to their voices. I also love the K100s. They kick!

Far out! Whatever you used in the first video sounds incredible. I love how well it holds together even under very high gain! No fizz or fuzz. Is this plugged straight in? No boost pedal or anything? The last amp I heard that was that focused and articulate under such extreme gain was the Fryette (VHT) Pitbull Ultra Lead. I’m very impressed. If it’s the Egnater, can you even still get them, even if they’re used?

I absolutely love the G12K. It’s my absolute favourite speaker. I wonder how it would sound blended with the V30. Cutting a track for each speaker on a song would give you the ultimate control for mixing. Even out of context, it’s killer and can absolutely imagine it totally ripping in a heavy song. I got a similar quality happening with my Marshall JVM but it took a bit of tinkering with some resistor values to remove the compression and get that kind of articulation from it. The G12K really helps, so does my custom overdrive in front though it’s not a necessity.

I’m also a big fan of the EMTYs myself. You just go straight in to a good hi-gain amp with good speakers, both the pick and note definition is fantastic. They had everything I wanted and nothing that I didn’t like from the comparatively brittle and harsh 707s that they replaced.

I stuck a V30 under the mic in the other cab for another tone test.

Listening to both, I actually like the Egnator better. It has some warmth that comes through. The ENGL sounds a bit sterile and metallic, very tight mid punch to it. They're both comparable and similar, but the Egnator just sounded a little bit better to me all around. But you have quite an arsenal now. All of it sounds good.

I think the BFG with the Distortion through the Engator wins for me. (Kind of renewed my appreciation for the simple Distortion pickup) That was tight, had both some mids, good chop to it, but still had some subs to it. Dean is a really close second, just it sounded slightly more scooped. Engator is good sounding all around, though, regardless of guitar. I need to compare that one to your ENGL vid. The ENGL vid was pretty crushing also.

Agree with you. The Eg is pretty much underrated in my opinion.It has a lot to offer tonally and is super versatile.

The ENGL Fireball is the best single tone metal amp ever created in my opinion.... It literally only does one thing, but it flat rips!
(Similar to the DSL in that respect)

My favorite tones usually (drop tuned) are the Blackouts though, they growl wonderfully.
Having said that, the DD is the best pickup for what I do. I have tried dozens of other pickups and almost always end up just buying another DD. It just sounds right!

You hear a lot about how tube amps need to be turned up to really roar. Most of my tube amps have not been very susceptible to low volume suckiness.... This Egnater is however one of those that really needs to be turned up to sound great. As I'm learning.

Now I'm curious about the Tribute LP because I know I dropped the volume a lot in that clip.... I may need to redo that guitar real quick to compare.

The Dean has some girth to it. The Epiphone (active) sounded mid-rangy to me, while the LP just sounded thinner in general.

The BFG LP you had in another clip going into the ENGL (that combo was great sounding), if you still have that guitar, that would be interesting through this rig.
