    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahaahAHahAHahAhaAHahAHAHahAhahahaH AHAhahaHAH
    HOLY **** GUYS.
    This amp´s ****ing RULE
    very very good distortion
fat, meaty, crunchy, and sweet for leads.
    awesome distortion
it´s like a metalzone, but 200% improved. and all tube.
    i loved it
    ahahahah holy ****
    crunchy, tight. very very good.
it has lots of ****ing mids. damn. ahahahah excellent.

the funny thing is : i liked it with the CC/HR combo.. but disliked the pickups now. the HR didn´t sound fat enough, and the CC loose botom end TIGHTNESS(as i expected) and didn´t have enough Harmonics... thats ****ing weird.
    the emgs are ****ing brigght
i´ll swap the 85 to bridge and see what happens.
and with the emg set i disliked it too. too ****ing bright.
also... now i can see that, with almost any aftermarket pickup, i can sound pretty good with this amp
    ****ing hails
thank´s Jeff and all other guys that helped me to get the 5150!!!
This is a ****ing all tube amp. very goood really.
    ****ing hails

        Re: 5150+marshall 1960 Review.

I also run a 5150 through a Marshall 1960 cab with GT12-75 speakers, just as you are. It sounds fantastic....

        What works with this setup:

Just to let you know, if you're in the market for a good effects processor, then the BOSS VF-1 is a very high quality and compact digital effects processor that has a minimal colouring effect on sound. I highly recommend it to those running a 5150/Marshall combo. The best part is that these can be obtained on eb*y for a paltry US$125 or so a piece.

What doesn't work with this setup:

I used to run a cheap-ass Digitech Studio 100 processor in the fx loop. Stay away, I repeat, stay away from this particular processor. It has what most people here on the forum would describe as a 'tone sucking' or 'soul sucking' effect on the guitar signal, resulting in a very warped or coloured tone. The thing is, I didn't realise this until i actually unplugged the Studio 100 from the loop and realised what I was missing!!

One problem with the 5150 heads is that there is significant signal gain introduced into the effects loop section of the amp when the effects loop is activated. Apparently this was the way the amp was constructed, and this can prove to be problematic since it is almost impossible to play at low volumes. The best part of the BOSS VF-1 is that there is an adjustable output from -20dB to +4dB. I set my VF-1 to -20dB which appears to tame/counteract the signal gain from the 5150 somewhat.

I have spoken to G-major users that seem to run into similar problems when using the G-major through a 5150. I do not know how this problem would be resolved with other effects processors.

Anyway, congratulations on your excellent choice. I do believe that the 5150 smokes a lot of other amps out there on the market, including Mesa Rectos and the newer JCM2000 series Marshalls.

        Oh yes, and f**king hails!!!

          Re: 5150+marshall 1960 Review.

          AHAHAH THANK´S VINCENT.
          Q
what are the settings you use on the 5150 knobs!?
my settings are : Lead channel - bass on 4. middles on 4. highs on 6.
presence 5(or 0, i dídn´t see a lot of improvements with these two switches) and resonance on 2.
Pre gain on 5. Post Gain On 4,5.

i´m a pedal guy. not a pedalboard guy. ahahaha
i´ll use the boss effects pedals.
          not a pedalboard or multieffect
          i´ll use single pedals.
          i´m after the rv-2 or rv-3.
i already have the DD-3. bass equalizer. super phaser.
super overdrive JAPAN, had the metalzone, and sold it to buy the ubermetal.
          ahahahahahah
and i want a Harmonizer pedal. for use with some leads.
          etc.
also, i gonna grab a gcb-95 crybaby dunlop or a crybaby fasel dunlop.
and then my set will be completed.
don´t know if i need a noise gate. i guess not. i can tame all the ****ing noises. i always did it my entire 9 years of guitar playing.

                    Hails Guys!
i just forget to ask some questions..
ahahahahaah if i want to plug my Ubermetal or my EX Metalzone using the clean channel of the 5150. should i plug it on the normal or high gain channel? or in the effects loop? but where exactly in the effects loop? i´m new with this effects loop, never plugged anything on any effects loop output of any sort.
                    ahahahahah
also.. i want to test my dd3 too, this one i´m sure will go on the effects loop
but.. which inputs should i plug it? Send, return or preamp input?!
                    Hails J.p

Also.. if i want to just plug my guitar into the 5150.. should i plug it in the high or normal gain?
what are the purposes of both inputs?
