  • Building my own cab: a couple of questions... Woods, speakers...

I'm thinking about building a cab during the next vacations. I'd be really tempted to build it with tonewoods, so I'd need one with decent looking grain even when of a low grade, if possible. It'd have two 12'' speakers (advise any combos if you wish ) and 4 tweeters. A la Genz Benz GFlex basically. I'll probably use it with a ENGL 530 rack preamp for when I get one (GAS strikes )

    So to sum up:
    What woods?
    What speakers?
    What tweeters?

    Thanks dudes

    Speakers? A Vintage 30 & a G12T75. Why? They're cool & they're rock'n'roll

Btw, I'd rather use a sturdy wood than looking for a beautiful one...

there's actually a guy on ebay that will sell you the pieces of wood for the cab that are already cut and fingerjointed. solid pine. You have to cut your own baffle. But, that might be a good way to start.

        Indeed it would!
So far the plan is to use 13ply birch or pine. Screw the nice woods, it's true, I'll get it painted in black hehe... It'll be a standard 2X12 (got drawn away from the ports), black with a white baffle in ply birch too.
