  • Tube advice...What would you do and why?

Well it's time for a power tube change again in my 2204. I've been using GT- E34L's which sound pretty good to me. What do you guys think of using any of these: 6CA7, KT66, or another version of the EL34? Tell me your xperiences with any of these output tubes in your amps. God bless you and your important work...

I still like EL-34's more, and they also bias easier. With other types, you run the risk of the bias pot running out of travel, and having to have resistors changed by a tech.

I like JJ's, but another one I've been wanting to try is the New Sensor Mullard EL-34 replicas. My next tube change might be to a set of those, just to see if I like them better.

I like NOS 6CA7, sound great, last forever...regular EL34's sound pretty wimpy to me in comparison. KT66 is nice too...GT version is OK if you want a harder flavor, Chinese is a little sweeter (and cheaper).
