  • BSIAB II owners ... I seek your reviews

I am highly considering building this stomper and I want some reviews. Particularly, can you get a good high gain sound out of this thing (think deftones)? Any info, however, is appreciated.

Great sounding pedal, plenty of balls, plenty of gain,a bit dark....It's biggest flaw is a microphonic squeeling at higher volume and gain settings that is next to impossible to get rid of....I built one and I know! Some people compare it to the Fulltone OCD? I added an extra "contour" knob to mine that changes the mid frequencies and I've tweaked mine further so it's not as dark sounding....I don't use it that much lately and use a Plexitone pedal and the Guv'nor and Rat that I built and like better..

Type in BSIAB 2 Under The Search Function on the site below...

Both Christian, but mine is alot warmer overall and as usual has more lows...The pedal is great...Distortion bordering on fuzz but stays pretty note clear and with great sustain also....I use it alot..

I can echo what SD97 said. Mine sounds great at bedroom volume's.It made my Lil' Champ 12 and HRD sound like a Marshall 1/2 stack. But at gig volume with my HRD on 3 it was almost unusable. I thought it was just my crappy build? But when SD97 reported the same problems I knew it wasn't me. I have sound clips somewhere? I'll post them if you like.

Another killer distortion is the Double D from Runoffgroove. The "Bounce" channel is just fat and thick sounding. The "Jiggle" channel is pretty clean, a little dirt but not much. Pretty tweed-ish itself. That's the one I'm going to do next, right after the Big Daddy.

I have to complete the Matchbox pedal....Haven't gotten around to it...Also built a Tube Screamer for my other guitarist in my band because his TS5 kept giving us switch and jack problems...The Tube Screamer came out great....

There were alot of posts from other builders of the BSIAB 2 about this problem...I tryed shielding the input and output jacks and shortening and changing the lead dress...Nothing I did got rid of the microphonic squeeling?

Sounds just like a microphonic pickup....It has great tone providing you use it at lower volume levels and don't crank the gain way up..But that makes the pedal limiting..

Oh yeah. Their Tube Reamer is awesome. One of the best "simple" versions I've heard. The Matchbox I haven't tried. So far from them I've done on either perf for breadboard the Ruby, Fetzer Valve, Tube Reamer, Odie, May Queen, tried the Thunderchief but ran short on parts (DOH!). For some reason, I just love the name of the Double D and the names of the channels. I wonder what they were thinking. There's an avatar I've seen that reminds me of it though. HAHA!!!

My BSIAB squeeled like a peg as well, the BSIAB II however, doesn't. I don't know where I went "wrong" with that.

I don't know how much gain exactly you're looking for, but I wouldn't say this is a "modern" sounding pedal with lots of gain.
some soundclips at General Guitar Gadgets

For more and modern gain, check the Shaka pedals or the various versions of the HMP.
I've been driving all night, my hands wet on the wheel.
