  • Steve Stevens tone/amps?

What amps did this guy use on the vince neil days??

    pretty damn great rock tone!

and of course great chops. this guy can really play man.

any ideas on what he uses now?? i think it is Rocafforte.
    Ibanez Roadstar II
    EBMM AXIS HoneyBurst
    VHT 50/12 Pitbull

Jack Nicholson: It's not true. Some have great stories, pretty stories that take place at lakes with boats and friends and noodle salad. Just no one in this car. But, a lot of people, that's their story. Good times, noodle salad. What makes it so hard is not that you had it bad, but that you're that pissed that so many others had it good.

    Re: Steve Stevens tone/amps?

Back in the Billy Idol days, it was a mix of older and/or reissue non-master-volume Marshalls, most noteably a JTM45, IIRC. He did not use the JCM800's that were prevalent in the 80's. For overdrive, it was a Boss GE-7 equalizer and a Rat distortion (coincidentally, the same two boxes are on my latest pedalboard). Of course, he used a bunch of 80's rack-mount stuff (Lexicon?) for chorusing and ray-gun effects.

While searching for something else, I came across these on eBay the other day:

    Auction 1

    Auction B

I always loved Stevens' playing (and not just because we share a last name). He was always right out on the edge, going for it.

Steve has a collection of 6 late 60's 100 watt Plexi's that are dead stok and are on every album he has ever recorded...the 5150's are live amps. Loads of different gutars...Gibson, Washburn, Fender, Music Man, Hamer, PRS, the list goes on.

Just in time - a multi-page article on Steve Stevens in the brand-new Guitar Player, March 2006 just arrived today. Says he's using Plexis and a 5150 on the current Idol tour.

Alex Lifeson is on the cover, with his gorgeous Howard Roberts.

                Re: Steve Stevens tone/amps?

Doesn't Mr. Steve have a new endorsement deal with Fender? I LOVED his playing on Rebel Yell and Whiplash Smile. Those two records are right up near the top of my list of the some of the very best of that post-punk movement in the 80's.

Steve did 2 albums with Tony Levin and Terry Bozzio, I have both and both are amazing...IMO, the 2nd one is better. The first one is called "Black Light Syndrome" and the 2nd one is called "Situation Dangerous". Steve also recorded an album about 6 years ago now called "Flamenco A Go-Go" that is simply a beautiful album...
