  • Soldano Hot Mod

Anyone have any experience with the Hot Mod? I've been thinking about grabbing one of these for use in my Astroverb when funds allow, but haven't made my mind up yet. Any opinions/ reviews would be great. Thanks.

    Re: Soldano Hot Mod

I have one, they are pretty nice. I havn't used it for a long time. It is like ading another gain stage to the amp. makes it pretty hot.

Yeah, a Soldano should already have it built in. The Hot Mod was originaly designed to be used in primarily Marshall JCM800 2203 or 2204 amps.

How would a HOT MOD sound in a Marshall SLP ?

                  Re: Soldano Hot Mod

I've had a Soldano Hot Mod in a Marshall JCM 800 (2204) for the last ten years. It has one of the best high gain sounds of any amp I've ever heard.

One point. If you put in a Hot Mod, the amp will never clean up, no matter how low you roll back the volume on your guitar. It also increases your volume big time. You really need a master volume amp with these things.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to find a local shop that has one in stock to test out.

Not sure if you know this... Soldano stopped making the Hot Mod about 10 years ago.

They sell on Ebay for about $175 (if you can find one).

                        Re: Soldano Hot Mod

i had a hot mod in my '79 Marshall JMP for a while. it added TONS of gain if wanted which was nice but it didn't help fatten up the amp any which i hoped it would, so i sold it. still a very cool add on for a vintage marshall IMO.
