  • I have asked this before

Now I am serious. I want another hair metal marshall. But... I want to spend a lot less. I was thinking Laney AOR. Other suggestions? I got a modded JCM 800. I want another one that will do the modded 80's marshall w/0 the money.

    Thanks

Pics of my amp? It look like a standard JCM 800 combo from the early 80's. Vertical inputs, 6 knobs, LOUD.

      Any suggestions?

An AOR will do fine. Basically a JCM800 with an extra gain stage. Even the 6V6 version which I have in the trading post sounds A LOT like a JCM800.

May I ask you why you want another?
It just doesn't make sense to me but if hair metal is all you play it might.

Perhaps it is a good idea to look at something else than a 1 trick pony to add to your collection?

I think I read something about Splawn on the forum... Don't know how much those cost though.

Or, you can just get a JCM900 instead, It'll do 80ies tones with the right settings.

$450. I want a clean channel. MY jcm is single channel. Also modded amps are always noisy. I want one a little quieter

+1 on the Carvin X-amps, just be sure to get the later EL-34 models and the footswtich! They do a great job on the "Marshall" tones and have a better clean sound then any Marshall made!

Well mine makes a little noise. I really want a second channel on an amp. I want the modded sound. I will just and see what I can find

Re: I have asked this before

For $450, I'd recommend getting something that's more practical for home playing than your JCM 800......get a Vox Valvetronix AD60 or 120 head, and use it with your cabinet. They look a little retro, but there's no amp with as much versatility and good tone as the Vox unless you're spending 2 or 3 times that.

If you learn how to dial in the Valvetronix, and hear it through a real cab, you can literally copy the sound of any amp.
