  • Vox ad50vt?

I'm thinking of Buying a Vox AD50Vt As soon as I get The money for it (from selling other gear that I've listed in the trading post). An I was wondering what everyones opinion On these is? I'm mainly planning on useing it as a Basement Pratice amp, and for recording purposes. So It won't be for gigging or anything other than practice, and light jamming with friends. So heres my questions.
Whats the main differences between This and The Vox AD60VTX (which is substantially more money)?
    How reliable are these?
How accurate are the Modeled amps?
And is the Line out good for recording? or will I still be better off Micing the speaker?

I'm mostly looking for opinions of People that own this amp, Or Others similar to it in the Vox Valvetronix line. But anyone with any experiance with these is welcome to reply.
    Thanks in advance guys..

Have a look around this site some of the patches are accompanied by sound clips.

For the money there's not much wrong with these amps and some of us have gigged them without any of the problems that some people suggest (early examples had one or two issues that have been addressed and sorted) Sadly any amp can play up It's just a lot less likely as you go up the Quality scale.
The Difference Between the AD50 & AD60 is the AD60 has more parameters, models & effects then the AD50 which is from the Budget range, the speaker is also better but you can easily swap this and upgrade to the same spec. The amp models according to vox are the same. One big advantage is that you can adjust the volume to home levels and still get a great tone go and try one if you can before you buy but switch of the effects on the factory patches to get a better idea of how good it can sound.

        Re: Vox ad50vt?

I've had them both. The AD50 is fine if you only want a few models of amps, effects etc.. I think the AD50 had the power cut knob too. I emailed Vox and they said the models are exactly the same, but the VTX series has wood cabs instead of pressed board, better speaker(s) so they sound better overall.

I bought the the AD50 from MF and it crackled, dropped out, sounded great when it worked, LOL. Sent it back for a full refund and got the AD60VTX from Guitar Center. I then bought an Earcandy Buzzbomb 2X12 and loaded it with celestions and I'm so happy with this amp it's incredible. I swapped out the tube and speaker immediately when I had it as just the combo, putting a few different tubes in to see what I liked better (settled on a JJ after a Mullard reissue Groove Tubes 12ax7 crapped out) and a Celestion Vintage 30. The sound difference--to me--was huge. I'd do the same if you buy the AD50. The models are fantastic by the way. I have a real 65 Fender Champ. I put both amps on at the same time and used the tweed 4X10 model on the VTX and tweaked it until the tones were nearly exactly the same. Awesome!

The AD60VTX can be had on ebay for about $450, but you don't know if it's a newer one or if you're getting someone elses troubles. These amps are known to have some problems, though knock on wood mine has been great for the eight months or so I've had it.

My advice, buy the AD120VTH head new and get a good cabinet. That's the way I would go if I had it to do over again. If your budget allows that is. Otherwise, you can do (I believe) the same thing with the AD50--get a good cab to use and you'll have a "3X12" like me, LOL. Remember, on these amps the ohms would be doubled, not divided in two. You would have to have an 8 ohm cab and together with the 8 ohm load from the amp you would set the amp on 16 ohms.

Hope this helps out and good luck!
        My songs....enjoy! (hopefully )

          Re: Vox ad50vt?

I to had the 50 and made the mistake of reading reviews. One review talked about the noisey internal cooling fan. Funny thing is I never noticed it before, but after reading that it drove me nuts. That being said, I now have the 60 watt head. The VTX series gives you the ability to add effects such as reverb, dalay, modulation etc. seperatley or combined where as the 50 and below models have a selector knob which gives you limited combinations. The VTX line is well worth the extra cash.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I've also been reading reviews on HC, and The Musicians friend reviews on this amp. And from everything I've been hearing, It seems like the ad60vtx is deffinately a better amp by a long shot. But its also way more money, and outta my price range. I guess the search continues...haha.

i use a AN AD50 and i have to say the 60 is better anyways. The line out is crap in all vox amps.So micing is the only "good sounding" solution.

The 120 watt stereo head can be had new for $550. It's all the amp you will ever need.

Yeah, I saw that. But then I'de have to invest another $300-$500 on a decent speaker cab. So that Kicks it way outta my price range. Thanks for the reply though.
