  • My looper makes a low pitched humming noise

It in the effects loop of my amp, all levels are normal (guit would be the same volume if looper wasnt there). Its not a heap of noise, but its loud enough to annoy ya.

Also the looper is plugged into a different power supply than my amp

Can someone tell me whats going on???

sounds like a ground loop maybe?
        have you tried other outlets?
        gear:

'05 gibson les paul studio vintage mahogany (DiMarzio Super Distortion/ SD Jazz)
'04 gibson SG standard (BurstBucker Pro's)
        mesa/boogie 2-channel dual rectifier (with EL34's)
        marshall 1960A 4x12
        and a few pedals

The only thing you can do is deductive reasoning. First, make sure all your gear is plugged into one electrical outlet. Second, start taking pedals off the looper one by one. Make sure you're not plugging into pedals before the amp that are sharing the same power supply as pedals in your FX loop. Unplug everything in the room on the same breaker as your gear, to make sure it's not a lamp or something picking up noise and transfering it to your rig. It's little things like that which cause ground gremlins and noise.

Ok, some more info on this little problem of mine.

When in the FX loop, I tried the looper out with 2 amp settings, 1 with the master vol cranked and preamp vol down really low, the other setting the opposite (preamp cranked (about 8), and master volume on about 2.

Strangely enough, the humming noise dissapeared on the second setting (when the preamp gain was high and the master volume was LOW)...and was really noisy when the master was high and the preamp low.

The actual output volume coming out of the amp was pretty similar with both settings.

            WHAT IS GOING ON????

            Thanks.
