And fuzz on bass can be fuzz with a little octave (up) added :

    - Hugh Hopper : Second Soft machine album (I love it)

    - Glenn Hughes : Deep Purple "Sail Away"

A DS1 direct into a PA set to very slight distortion can be a surprisingly half-decent solution if lacking a powerful bass amp or too lazy to lug one.

For hardrock/metal sounds, preferably with actives or humbuckers. And a solid bass. Worked okayish with a tight hiend Japanese Ibanez, bandleader *****ed and moaned a bit but the working pro bassist from the next band lined up for the rehearsal space thought it was badass and oohed and aahed and drooled a bit and tried to borrow it without asking when I stepped out for a smoke (it wasn't quite ALL that... millenials)

...Prolly won't fly with a Chinese Squier Affinity Jbass, though, just fyi.

In reggae and dub reverb and delay are used from time to time. I have an ancient In-Line Effects analog delay and Digitech RV-7 on my pedalboard that I use from time to time.

I want a bass that sounds like this.............

Any ideas? It sounds a bit like a chorus pedal.

I have a bass board built for rehearsals and any recording I might want to do at the house. I have the mandatory tuner, then compressor and an MXR DI+. It gives me a second tone, as well as a distortion that I can blend to taste.

I love the Sansamp/Tech 21 stuff for bass.

If you want to sound as BAD as humanly possible -buy an 80s DOD Bass Stereo Chorus pedal -and turn it up!

Or listen to the bass tone of Journey or some Ratt songs and laugh hard.

Or anything Billy Sheehan has played on.
His playing is great but that chorus tone...not so much.

HAHA -totally forgot about Billy -didn't Stu Hamm do the Chorus thing too? -Except with FINGERLESS GLOVES? ***Crowd Goes Wild!****

I absolutely hate Bass Chorus. -Makes an single note on a Bass sound like somebody made an 8 string upright double bass with duplicate noted adjacent flatwound strings -TERRIBLE

Hey, but seriously -that Sansamp Bass stuff is super legit -when I played bass in a band, I got to ditch my giant SVT Head (UUUUGGGGGG) for a Samsamp pedal and smaller solid state power amp.

I've been using a SansAmp Tech 21 since around 2003. Love it.

I think Blackmore is only playing the "oriental" solo. The rest of "Sailing away" is octave fuzz bass and synth.
                        The bass intro sounds huge.
