When you're listening to this song and the bass break comes in, anything you're doing is suddenly 10X cooler

^ I remember thinking the bass sounded epic when I saw them junior year in 02 or so. That was when I only played bass. He was pumping 8ths and the band was cooking as hell. I was so impressed.

I love punk bass. You can do so much cuz the guitars are playing power chords the whole time so the bass can define the tonality and do whatever it wants.

The high end was the treble pickup through a Marshall guitar amp. The low end is the other pickup through an SVT. Similar to the way Billy Sheehan does his rig.
Dave LaRue from the Dixie Dregs & Flying Colors gets a great tone, which keeps the articulation there through very fast playing.

One of my favorite live bass tones was a J-bass through a GK 1001-RB. A player known as Matt Hernandez laid down some thick bass lines on some muggy nights in small clubs across the U.S. back in the day. His tone is legendary to me and it always will be. I bought a GK 1001-RB because of his tone. I love playing a swamp ash J-bass through it all day...

I do love a lot of the old reggae bass tones, a lot of swamp ash bodies used in the old days.

I love Paul Simonon's P-bass tone, that is up there for me. The Clash have some great music.

Jaco, of course, but for many different reasons than just his tone... his technique was incredible.

I love a lot of the Music Man tones I hear across a wide range of music. Their 3-band EQ puts down some serious thunder. I used to use one through my GK and some of my old recordings have a nice, thick bass tone. My goal is to return to that ballpark again with my upcoming bass.

Of course, it is impossible to discuss bass tone for me without mentioning Sublime's Eric Wilson...a true diety of thunder.
