  • DIY Bass Vibrato

I had a strange thought on my walk to work today

you know those old 3 point bass bridge on an epiphone or gibson? What if you grabbed some long pins and put a bigsby spring and tremolo arm on the top pin, you could potentially fashion a rudimentary vibrato?

Am I a crazy scientist or, am I just crazy?

Those are NOT made to move.

right. they are not made to move and if you make it move, id assume youd have some tuning stability issues. you could use a super heavy spring and have it drop only but since the bridge wasnt designed to move, im not sure how the string will sit in the saddle.

if you do it in a non-destructive manner, give it a try. if it doesnt work well, switch it back
