The only Mayer pedal I've used was the Axis. A friend of mine has one, so I used that as a point of comparison. I made a copy of it and did a few mods to the circuit [to take some of the "woofiness" out of the bass...]. We both like the copy better!
The Axis works great with an amp [Marshall, Vox, etc...] that's already set for "crunch". You can get a bunch of levels of distortion and fuzz if you take time to tweak it. The Axis has more gain then a stock FF. and also is less muddy. The original circuit used European 3906 and 3904 trannys and does NOT sound the same with American knockoffs. This pedal is made to be combined with a good tube amp that's cranked up !
