I've always believed more mass = more sustain, but then again I've seen headless guitars with plenty of sustain. In fact Jerry Douglas claims that one of the advantages of his headless Scheerhorn reso over his other conventional Scheerhorns is more sustain.

Headless guitars are nothing more than an oddity. What's the ratio of headstocked guitars to non-headstocked? 10,000:1? Like Mazda's rotary engine- if it's so great why isn't EVERYONE using them? Hmmmm?

Besides- without a proper headstock, how am I supposed to impale someone?

Have you ever even played one?

I played a Steinberger years ago- not impressed with it. I thought about it- It would have lots of sustain because the string anchor point would utilize the neck's mass, and not the rather thin and small headstock (not as much mass).

All said, I still prefer headstocked guitars if simply for the aesthetics.

i dont like un-headstocked guitars, because my hand always slips right off. its just the way i play, its a feel thing, if i feel the bottom of the headstock with the tip of my thumb, i feel alot more comfortable.

I got B2D's Groove Tubes Fatfinger, but I lost the rubber/felt things the first day. I could easily hear a diff. in tone. Fatter, louder. But, after awhile of not having those things, It left a serious mark on the back of my headstock, but I reckon you're not too worried about that if you screw big metal objects into your headstock. Anyone remember back in the 70's when Ritchie Blackmore screwed a strap button onto the ball end of his strat headstock? Everybody started doing it. I've found a few strats here and there that have the button still there or a screw hole from it.

I agree with you 100%, just throwing it in for the sake of discussion. I've played a Steinberger too, thought it was kinda cool, just not for me. It did sustain well though.

Hey, that reminds me of a dirty joke! 2 sex advice columnists were in a bar arguing about the shape of the male penis. The first guy says, "It's shaped that way for the WOMAN's pleasure!" The second guy replies, "No- it's shaped for the MAN's pleasure!" A third guy turn around and says, "You're both wrong! It's shaped like that so your hand doesn't slip off the end of it!"

I hope I don't get banned from the forum for that!
