The wiring on newer standard Strats has a jumper wire so that the second tone control operates on both bridge and middle pickups. The first tone control operates on the neck pickup only.
I've used this wiring in my Strat and what I don't like about it is that if you have the second tone control backed off to cut treble on the bridge pickup it also cuts treble from the #2 position (neck and middle), because the bridge pickup tone control is shared with the middle pickup.
It would suit me better to have the neck and middle pickups jumpered together on one tone control, with the bridge pickup having an independent tone control. This way I can cut treble from the #5 and #4 positions but leave it full up on the other three (mid, mid/neck, neck).
This looks like a very simple change - just move the second tone control wire to the bridge pickup's lug on the switch and move the jumper wire so the middle pickup shares the first tone control with the neck pickup.
Anyone else done this? Any reason why it won't work?
I'm gonna do it.
Yeah, yeah, I know. Go master tone control and blender pot. One day, one day.
