    Re: samick guitars

I own 3 Samicks. IMHO you can't get a better Guitar for the Money $$ . Just
Pull the PuPs out and replace Em' w/t Duncans and you have yourself a
    very playable/Gigable guitar. My 1st Samick was a SAN- 450 (335 style)
It's almost a dead on knockoff of the real deal. The main give away is
Samick use's a Spanish Luthiers Joint on their headstocks. Next I got a
Sonota witch is a off brand of a UM-4. The body is made from Nato wood
Witch I call poormans Mahogany ( I have no problems w/t it as a
tone wood). No Maple cap tho !! It's a high tech Quilted maple cap. This
a Clever marketing trick IT'S A FOTO FLAME !! But for the money
they offer these guitars at You can't espect a highly figeured maple cap?
That's high end stuff. Lastly I have a Greg Bennet DC-E8 Acoustic.
Bennet revamped there whole line,And he did a fine job !! One more thing.
Samick is a OEM manufacturer, They make most of the low end stuff
you see hanging on the wall at Guitar Center YUP !! they make
Epiphone's,some fenders Etc. If the guitar say's made in Korea
or made in Indonisa .Pretty good chance it was made by Samick!! Ha Ha

I 've a samick. it 's my first guitar ever and I 'd say it's a good beginner guitar, but definitly not the best guitar for someone who wants a good sound. I think it's just fine for learning to play guitar and that 's it

Yeah, I believe it depends on the model, and the luck of the draw.
One of my favorite performers in St. Augustine uses a Samick acoustic, and its a fine guitar.

Jeff, good point with the higher models offering better woods. To be honest, I'm not sure what exact version of those models I've played.

I just remember being disgusted with them, like the Ibanez Jet King (cringes).

I actually really like some of the Epiphones out there. I wasn't impressed with the MIM Strat I had in the past, but I must have just gotten a dud. However, I think Epi pumps out some great guitars for the money.

    Just my .02

I don't know, if you get the UM 3 or UM4 it's an alder body with a maple cap....that should be pretty decent.

I know that a while ago a couple of board members had those Greg Bennett designed Samicks, and were pretty happy with them. I think if you can get them for a good price, they're very decent guitars. I'd probably take one of those over say, a MIM Strat or an EPI, or something similar. You do get what you pay for, but I'll bet there are some gems in that line of guitars.

I've played them before, but I think they're mediocre guitars. If you check out the specs alone it will tell you... the wood is made of nato. Nato = garbage.

I've tried them out and they sound decent, but it's apparent that the build quality is sloppy, it's an inferior product and it just doesn't feel like a good solid guitar should.
