How do they compare against, say, Sperzels or Schallers?
        Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

Obviously, that's why I'm interested in them.

But how do they compare as far as quality goes?

I have tried Schallers (full-size M6 locking, 3+3) and Grover Mini RotoMatic (small-size 6-in-line). Although I'm in Europe, the Schallers were still more expensive than the Grovers (imported across the Big Pond) and I don't think the Schaller's quality is better to justify the price difference. I've had the Schallers for 4 years and for example one of the thumbweels on the bottom fell off. To be fair, I've had the Grovers for just a couple of months so I can't compare, but I side with the Grovers.

If your guitar is intonated perfectly, and setup right, you don't need to buy new tuners, unless they're total crap. 9 times outta 10, a guitar just needs a perfect intonation job/nut slot filing to keep it staying in perfect tune.

I've only used Grovers, so I can't really say they are better/worse than Schallers or Sperzels. Sorry

Sorry, i forgot to say that the there going on a new guitar i built so so there aren't any tuners on it already.

BTW- to everybody- I really really like grovers. The stock grovers on my gibson never go out of tune. their the best.

Don't Grovers look bigger than Sperzels? ....like more appropriate for a Gibson?
I'd put Sperzels with staggered shafts, so the high E tapers closer to the headstock.

I agree, the grovers don't really look right on a fender. However both tuners are completely functional. I think it's a question of style and do you like the look of little metal discs on the back of your tuners.
