Hipshot bass tremolo?

I've just noticed this in the StewMac catalog, and wondered if anyone has tried it or else has heard anything about it (good or otherwise). I mean, I messed around with the tremolo on my guitar for about a week before I grew bored with it and installed the 4th and 5th springs to disable it; however, I'm also not really a guitarist. But I'd like to hear if anyone has an opinion on it before I rout out a huge chunk of my bass....

yeah i saw that too.......it looked pretty fhking crazy. i dont think youll find anyone on here who has tried it though.

Re: Hipshot bass tremolo?

it's one of those things that's a great concept, but is there really a use or need for it?

My bassist is actually going to get one and install it on either the bass he's building now or the one after that.

Re: Hipshot bass tremolo?

i know les claypool has a trem on one of his basses... but that is the extent of my knowledge.

I wouldn't mess your bass up. It looks pretty strange, and besides that I not even sure if it works, and for how long before you start having troubles with it , then what?

Yep, a Kahler.

Kahler had them in the 80s for 4 and IIRC even for 5 strings... Never really caought on, though, but there are some like Claypool that can really make good use of them ;)
