Considering that the Mesa Triaxis is one of the few great preamps around (along with the CAE 3+ SE and Soldano X88), I'd definitely choose that.

Would it matter if I went Triaxis - to a $500 dollar poweramp like a marshall or somethin?

hey man

the power amp does ALOT

its where the power and ball some from
the preamp is only 1/2 the job IMO

if ur not too fussed and u have a limited budget, get a 50/50
but if u want the best, i must say go the 2:90

Cant say im much of an expert on mesa gear, its reasonably rare over here, but of the ones ive played, the mark 4 combo just blew me away!!

Power amp definately makes a huge difference. I went from using a Crest solid state Power amp to my Mesa 50/50 and its night and day. Especially the fact that I put the Mesa on low power at 15 watts and crank the sucker to 5-7. (depending on if my wife's home!) You can probably pick up a used Mesa 50/50 for 500 or 600 bucks. I got mine on Ebay for around 600, but it was new out of the box, never even opened.

The power amp is the most important part.

If you need to skimp for now, you're better off getting a 2:90 (or similar) power amp for now, and getting a used ADA MP1 until you can afford the Triaxis (in my opinion).

I also agree with the others in that the 50/50 is an excellent power amp.
