  • Strat Pickguard and Pup Cover Opinions please...

    Hello!

Long story short....I am converting two Fender Strats from SSS to SSH & HH.

Right now, one Strat is a Brown Sunburst (though kind of yellowy) with a Black pickguard and white pup covers....Will be H-H.

The other Strat (see avatar) is White, but now has a Tortoise Shell pickguard and white pup covers. Will be S-S-H.

Now that I'm adding hums, should I keep the color schemes the same or??? What do you think? Thanks!

Sunburst and White happen to be two of my favorite guitar colors.
    (Along with black and red.)

Sunburst with mint green is my favorite...Gives it that 60s look..Pearl white instead of white looks cool also....I have found a great source for my lefty pickguards and very reasonable prices via a guy off e bay..He has made me 2 white pearl guards and the work is phenomenal....Contact me if you're interested?

        White pearl guard

        Second guard for H/S/S

        Mint Green H/S/S

          Troy,
those color combos sound fine to me, unless you're just plain tired and want a little change - then a pickguard change is one of the easiest ways to give a guitar a fresh look

if it's a vintage white strat, then that color with the tortoise is something I've thought about doing myself for a while now ... Dr. Barlo has one like that and it looks tasty in a vintage way.

your sunburst sounds sort of like SRV colors, which are fine for a little change from the regular old sunburst/ white guard look

I tend to prefer Fender CS pickguards, only because they fit perfect everytime and only cost a few bucks more than aftermarket.

On the tobacco sunburst, I'd order a copper Moto guard with 2 black humbuckers.

On the white, I'd go with a clear engine turned aluminum with aged white plastic parts.
Get a double cream C-5. The aluminum guards look great on solid colors. They're $50, tho. White/aluminum/cream would look sweet!

              Thanks Curly and Gearjoneser!!

Good suggestions here. I think the white Strat looks great in Tortiose Shell with white pups (this is a fairly new scheme). Still not sure about the Sunburst ... I guess I still kinda like Black with white pups...Oh well.
