  • Amp Mod?

Should I consider getting my Soldano modded? It's pretty close to everything I want....but the search for the perfect tone continues.
I guess my concern is taking a step back as a result of the mods.

Anyone here have mods done and have any feedback (good, bad or indifferent) to the mod results?

If the amp does everything you need it to do? I see no reason
to mod it. Normaly mods have a give and take effect on the amp.
( You get something, but ya lose something) As far as I know a
Solodano is pretty much a hotrod amp anyway??? The best thing
I'd say to do to it is Re-tube (when the time comes) with the best
tubes you can get. And have a tech bias it.

+1. If you're generally happy with the amp, tweaks like tubes and biasing are as likely to get you "there" as mods. Tweaks also have the advantage of being fully reversible in case you decide that it was a backstep.

Unless you have a very specific idea of what you want from a mod or have a tech willing to have you sit with him while he changes components, it would be hard for the guy doing to mod to find the sound in your head.

          Re: Amp Mod?

What kind of mod would you be looking for? Certainly not a gain mod, I hope! I would be personally interested to see if some of the SLO factory tweaks (warren haynes mod, fender mod) can apply to the hot rod. You might consider REMOVING the XL mod, if you have it, as I've heard that's one of the least preferred mods.

Just don't let this bull**** happen to your baby...

Yikes mrid....that's the worst job on a PC board I've ever seen. Trace seems to have a good rep, but that's scary. Glad my amp didn't end up looking like that.....thanks Mr. Seal for doing a quality job on my Marshall!

Thanks for the replies. I believe I'll limit the mods to having a depth control installed for the XL option....and if possible, a bias pot so I can bias the amp myself (along with a tube change).
