    Re: best combo amp?

I love my fender hot rod deluxe 40 watts 1x12" weber blue dog. I also switched out the 12ax7 in the v3 spot for a 12at7. So now it has two 12ax7 in the preamp stage only and the 12at7 in the phase inversion spot. This seemed to really smooth out the drive channel to my liking. Making it not as harsh. The weber blue dog increased the clarity and also seemed to smooth out the tone, making it sound fuller with a tighter bottom. This is, of course, how I preceive it. This amp has worked well for me with the band. It cuts through no problem. We play mainly classic rock and blues. I wouldn't recommend this amp for metal on it's own. For that I would think you'd need a metal zone and the clean channel, or a gnx/gt-6 type multifx processor through the power amp in and bypass the amp's pre-amp. I use the amp's clean and drive channels without any distortion box for most of the blues stuff we do, and I kick in a barber burn unit on the clean channel for more of the classic rock stuff. I love this setup it is very versatile for me and easy to setup. Just my 2 cents on the subject. Cheers!

I love the combo I just got, a Carlson Turbo Pup. It's a Fender-style preamp mated to an EL34 power section. 35w, 2x10", three-knob reverb, it really sings. They're described as a Fender-meets-Hiwatt type of sound.

I use a Marshall 900 50 wat combo A/B'd with a 69 super reverb. Works really great for what I do. But I goota agree with Johnny C the best combo is a deluxe hands down.

Bogner Metropolis... very dimensional tone, nothing else like it

ALSO, played a '59 Tweed Deluxe for a session in Sun Studio. Wonderful amp. Was tempted to break in and steal it (not really, but it was incredible!).
