  • Grounding/Shielding Question

I recently saw a pic of a strat pickguard that had a solid aluminum plate instead of foil for shielding. The pickups were grounded to the back of the volume pot. Also, the jack ground wire was soldered to the pot ground lug and this was bent back and soldered to the pot casing.

The other two pots and switch weren't hard wired to the pot. Got me thinking.

-Shield the cavities with copper foil. Carry some of the shielding up and out of the bridge pup cavity so the bottom of the bridge makes contact with it.

-Remove the jack ground from the pot lug and solder it to the control cavity shielding.

Figured this way when the pickguard is screwed down everything would be grounded to the shielding rather than the volume pot and the bridge ground wire would be eliminated.

Would the volume pot ground lug stay soldered to the pot in this set-up and would ground loops be a problem here? Actually would it even work?
Working...
