Re: Thoughts on these speaker combinations

the g12m is nice and warm and has great mids, not a huge bottom 25w
the g12h has a bigger more aggressive tone than the g12m but still has a pretty 30w
vintagey tone. more bottom, more snarl.
the vintage 30 has more upper mids than either of the others, more bottom than the g12m. lots of punch and the top is voiced a little differently than the others, maybe a little more modern. still more vintagey than the 75w celestion g12's. 60w (some say 70w, i think it has something to do with the 50hz vs 60hz)

the vintage 30 and g12h 30w are both more efficient than than the greenback so they produce more volume.

mixing the different speakers will mix those quallitys. i think all the combos are good and whats best depends on your taste. the g12m/g12h combo is a good all around combo for reggie/rock/blues but depending on the amp can do lots more. for what you said, i think a g12h/v30 combo is a good choice. i have it in a 2x12 cab and it sounds great. strong punchy tone with great complex mids and full bottom and just enough bite on top.

there is also a question of speaker break up. a greenback will start to break up before the other two and way before the vintage 30.

like i said, any of those combos are good

I have a 2X12 with the G12H-30 Vintage 30 combo. These two speakers complement each other very nicely the vintage 30 is really crisp and tight while the g12h really warm mids and isnt as tight as the vintage i like the way it sounds. i play mostly classic rock and i like the sounds i get out of it. you check out reviews on harmony central for avatar cabs with this combo its pretty popular and i would recomend it.
