  • proper bass action?

what's considered nice, low action on a bass? I bought a Cort Curbow Bass back before I decided to devote myself to guitar, but never had it set up. I'm getting ready to sell it, and I would like it to have proper action.

I might have to cut down the nut on this thing though... I bought it from a guy who installed a taller nut for "lower action" (it also came with the lightest set of bass strings I've ever seen), but there's a guitar low E string worth of space between the string and the first fret when I fret the second, and when the saddles are all the way down, the action can still go lower. So how low should it be?
    thanks,
    dan

Make sure the neck itself isn't bowed badly first, then just put the action as low as it will go before you start getting fret buzzing and dead notes with your technique.
