  • Recommend a NEW amp for under $600!!

    Hey all,

My friend is looking at getting himself his first amp and has set aside $600. I would like to know what you guys would recommend. Prefferably a combo, but it can be tube or SS, so long as it sounds good and is reliable. My friend just started to play electric and bought himself a Gretsch Sparkle Jet and plays mainly clean to slightly overdriven (no nu-metal chunk needed). I was thinking maybe a Fender HR Deluxe. What do you guys think?

Thanks a bunch for the info.

Almost forgot. It's got to be loud enough to keep up with drums and bass.

I'd recommend the Hot Rod Deluxe. They run about $350 to $450 used on eBay and $550 new at GC. I love mine.

Thanks for the suggestion Sid. I forgot to post that my friend really would like to buy a new amp. He wants the security blanket that is a warranty.

Ahhm, the Roland Cube 30 is a super cheap amp, it has a fantastic clean sound, and 8 lead channels - very versatile - ranging from Fender models to Vox models to Mesa and Marshall models. The distortions obviously couldn't compete with a tube amp (duh) but the dollar to dollar value is fantastic and could leave money over for other stuff too

However, the amp is a bit too crazy on bass frequencies (I have the bass set to
0 and it still has a bit too much bottom).

It gets a fair shout of very very good reviews, but I think it's only a bedroom amp.

Peavey Classic series amps are pretty popular also, might wanna check those out. I have had limited experience with them, but I liked what I was hearing.

I think theyre under $600, but I'm not positive...
